BBC Gardeners’ World Live: full planting guide to the GreenThumb show garden

Blog

Garden Designer Pip Probert takes us through the plants she is using to create GreenThumb’s BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2017 show garden.

This year, the GreenThumb show garden at the BBC Gardeners’ World Live Show takes its inspiration from colour, movement and texture. The result is a vibrant and adventurous composition of ornamental grasses and perennial planting.

Pip Probert, designer of the GreenThumb garden, said “We want you to explore the garden, stepping down into a tunnel pathway that takes you through the centre of the plot, lifting the grass up to a level where you can touch and see just how lush it is. Bright and unusual features all combine to create an ‘experience’ – you are walking through the space which has a coloured spider’s web effect overhead and ribbons of planting weaving through the space.”

The planted ribbons are minimal in plant choice, each ribbon with a different colour scheme of either yellow, pink or blue are block planted with ornamental grasses and various perennials to bring out the colour.  Shapes are formed by the materials within the garden but also from the flower heads creating a wonderful sense of variety.

Come and find GreenThumb amongst the gardeners’ paradise at stand E404 to see this show stopping design for yourself.
