Bring the Summer Olympics to your Back Garden

In the spirit of the 2016 Summer Olympics, gather your friends and family for your own Olympic fun right in your own back garden. Here are some fun and easy ways to create your own garden activities this summer:

• Flipper Race
  Have your guests divide into teams and provide each team with a pair of swim flippers, a measuring cup and two large buckets, one of which is filled with water. The winning team must transfer all of the water from one large bucket to the other using only the measuring cup while wearing the flippers.
• Endurance Hula Hooping
  Using a timer invite children to spin a hula hoop over various body parts until the hula hoop falls. Children can try to beat their own times, figure out which way they hoop the longest, discover new and funny ways to try to make it go round and around like spinning the hoop on their  ankle while waving their hands in the air!
• Bean bag fun
  Throw the bean bag or sock (push a tennis ball into the toe of a sock and tie the other end). Have competitions to see who can throw it the furthest. Of course you could throw practically anything - including wellies if it is a wet sort of day!
• Hula Hoop Balloon Toss
  Anchor helium-filled balloons with the numbers 50, 100, 200, and 500 on them and arrange the balloons so the lower numbers are closer to the line-up and the higher numbers are farther away. The contestants will then have to toss the hula hoops over the balloons and points are awarded based on the number on the balloons.
• Night Bowling
  Fill 10 plastic bottles with water and place one glow stick in each and arrange like bowling pins for a fun game of night bowling.
• Medals and Closing Ceremony
  Of course no Olympic Games can be complete without awarding medals and a closing ceremony. If possible, find some boxes so that medal winners can stand high on to get their applause!
