How to look after your lawn during Fireworks

Blog

As public events are called off this year, many of us will be staying at home to enjoy our own fireworks or small bonfires.

Here at GreenThumb, we know that your lovely lawns take centre stage for family fun all year round. That is why we have put together some tips to maintain your lush lawn and minimise damage caused by fireworks.

Avoid Scorching the Lawn

It is important that you don’t launch rockets directly from your lawn, as this will leave scorch marks on the grass. It is best to use a stable bucket filled with soil as a launch pad.
You can also use an old-fashioned fence-mounted Catherine Wheel about 1.5 to 2 metres off the ground. This will reduce the risk of scorching your lawn.
If you’d like to add some roaring flames to your fireworks display, get yourself a chimenea or fire pit to ensure your lawn is well protected.

Watch out for Rogue Rockets

After the night has finished, clear your lawn of any fireworks that have gone rogue in your garden. Fireworks contain chemicals that can affect your lawn if they are left on there too long.

Don’t let it Sparkle

A favourite is always the sparkler, but it is important you dispose of them correctly (not on your lawn). The best way is to get a bucket of water and dispose of the sparkler in there. If you drop them on your lawn, you run the risk of burning or singeing the grass.

Repairing a Burnt Lawn

If your lawn has suffered from damage, just rake the ash back into the soil to add in nutrients. But don’t panic! Here at GreenThumb, we’re able to repair damaged areas to make the lawn look good as new! Find your local GreenThumb branch here.
