Spring has arrived!

What are the signs of spring?

  • The days are finally getting longer, prompting birds to sing
  • Daffodils are poking up their heads
  • The sun is getting stronger (hopefully!)
  • Delicious, seasonal fruit & veg is appearing in the market
  • More of us are venturing out to our gardens to sow some seeds
  • GreenThumb are applying the fantastic NutraGreen spring treatment!

How do we define the start of spring?

Technically, there are two definitions as to how we decide when spring ‘officially’ begins – astronomical or meteorological.

Astronomical seasons refer to the position of the Earth’s orbit in relation to the sun, the equinox is when the length or day and night is closest to being equal. Since the seasons vary in length, the start date of a new season differs each year; this year it begins on 20th March.

Meteorological seasons are instead based on the annual temperature cycle coinciding with the calendar to determine a clear transition between the seasons, splitting each season into three months each; spring begins on 1st March every year. Who knew!

Now spring is almost with us, make the most of your wonderful outdoor spaces (whilst you can!).
