The Great British Lawn Off!

Blog

The Great British Bake Off is well and truly back! For us, it signals the start of Autumn and cosy evenings surrounded by cake!

But we can’t help noticing the summer garden scenes with the stunning fresh, floral back drops alongside the lush green lawn.

Autumn is the perfect time to give your lawn a ‘pick-me-up’ to revitalise it after the summer fun. If you show your lawn some love now, you can reap the rewards in Spring with a slab of cake alongside a lush grass carpet!

Here are some tips to win next year’s Great British Lawn Off…

  • Feeding (not with cake!): Your lawn needs feeding with our Autumn Long treatment. This treatment is a micronutrient feed that will strengthen the grass whilst dehydrating any moss that is present.
  • Aerating (just like a fluffy Victoria sponge, lawns need holes too!): The lawn benefits from Aeration which relieves compaction, allowing the air to move freely in the root zone.
  • Mowing: Lawns will still need an occasional cut when weather conditions allow.  Doing so keeps the lawn tidy and prepares it for winter. We recommend to only cut to about 25mm (1’’) at this time of year.
  • Raking: Once the leaves begin to fall, ensure they are raked out of the lawn.  Allowing leaves to gather on your lawn will block out sunlight and air, which your grass needs to survive.
  • Scarifying (let the cake breathe!): Thatch that accumulates in the lawn over the year will need to be removed, helping the plant to breathe. This is carried out annually to keep thatch levels low.
  • Renovating turf: Autumn is a good time to do a lawn makeover as the soil will be warm; this will allow seed to germinate and be well established before the onset of winter. Patches can be re-turfed, and hollows and bumps smoothed out. Sow grass seed on bare patches of lawn.

Voila – a perfect masterpiece that is worthy of a Paul Hollywood handshake!
