Watering your Lawn

Blog

During dry weather, proper watering is essential to the overall health of your lawn. Just like the plants in your flower beds, your lawn will need watering to make sure it stays green or ultimately, it will die.

The frequency and amount of water you apply to grass varies, depending on soil, time of year, weather conditions, type of grass, and so on.

If you have a sandy-type soil this absorbs water quickly, meaning your lawn needs water more frequently. Whereas a clay-type soil absorbs water slowly, meaning your lawn holds water more effectively.

If you feel your grass is lacking vibrancy, try these watering tips to put some life back into your lawn!

Water in the morning

Water at times when the moisture is likely to soak in rather than evaporate; early morning or late evening is the best. Morning watering gives the lawn a chance to dry off before evening, which can protect your lawn from disease.

Avoid runoff

If you apply water faster than the lawn can absorb it, that’s wasteful. Instead, water in short intervals of about 10-15 minutes, turn off the water (or move the sprinkler) to let the water soak in, and then turn the water back on for another 10-15 minutes.

Watch your lawn and make appropriate adjustments

If the lawn doesn’t seem to dry out between watering, stretch out the intervals in-between. If the water doesn’t get deep enough, apply a little more at each watering, but water less often. It’s all about knowing your lawn and how it reacts to the watering pattern you have put in place.

Conserve Water

Water is precious and we should avoid being wasteful. Conserving water is important because it keeps water pure and clean while protecting the environment. You could collect rainwater, reuse grey water, or use our revolutionary Oasis treatment!

Our Oasis treatment can prevent your lawn from becoming dry and scorched. Whether it’s rain, recycled water, or evening morning dew, our Oasis treatment, will capture this moisture, improving the colour and quality of your grass almost immediately. It will also reduce the need to water your lawn by up to 80%!

Oasis is included in the same period as our NutraGreen Summer Ready Treatment for all customers on our new Lawn Treatment Programmes, with Ultimate customers benefiting from a second Oasis Treatment.
