GreenThumb Falkirk is run by Mark and Manuela Mackay. They have been operating since March 2000. Mark says: "We are keen to help identify any lawn issues and come up with a lawn treatment programme that suits your needs. Our aim is to give wonderful lawns and exceptional customer service."

Scotland provides a great environment for lawns to flourish – plenty of water and not too hot. Of course, this environment is also ideal for thatch, moss and lichens. So, we have adapted our programme to tackle these issues. We feel the Standard Programme we offer is ideal for most lawns.

Another issue we are seeing more and more in our area, is insect damage – in particular, leatherjackets (the larvae of the crane fly, otherwise known as daddy longlegs). Recent legislation has meant changes in the way we treat this issue. We have now moved to a totally-biological (organic) control, known as nematodes, which are applied at the optimum time of year, when the young larvae or grubs are infesting the lawn.

Another common issue is the disease red thread. When necessary, we apply a fungicide treatment which reduces disease activity and allows the lawn to recover.
